Guardians place RHP Alex Cobb (blister) on IL

The Cleveland Guardians placed right-hander Alex Cobb on the 15-day injured list with a blister and selected the contract of right-hander Andrew Walters from Triple-A Columbus.

Cobb last pitched Sept. 1 and was scratched from his start Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers because of the blister on the middle finger of his right hand.

Cobb, 36, was traded to the Guardians by the San Francisco Giants on July 30 and made his season debut on Aug. 9 after offseason hip surgery and a bout with shoulder inflammation earlier this season.

With Cleveland, Cobb is 2-1 with a 2.76 ERA in three starts, taking a perfect game into the seventh inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his Sept. 1 outing. In 13 major league seasons for the Tampa Bay Rays (2011-14, 2016-17), Baltimore Orioles (2018-20), Los Angeles Angels (2021), Giants (2022-23) and Guardians, he is 79-76 over 233 career starts with a 3.84 ERA.

Walters, 23, is set to make his major league debut. In 50 relief outings at Double-A and Triple-A this season, he is 4-0 with a 2.32 ERA.
